5 movies to scratch that creature feature itch.

We all sometimes want to indulge in a creature feature. Creature features are horror movies featuring a monster or a creature as the main antagonist. Most modern day creature features feature too much sex and only about 10 mintues of screen time for a poorly CGI created monster. The following five movies are definately different from the norm and you will surely find something to watch during this lockdown period.

A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place was released in 2018 and was co-written, directed and starred by  John Krasinski. A Quiet Place is the closet thing to a modern day classic. It told at the time a completely orginal story about creatures attracted to sound.

The movie follows a family as they try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world which has been ravaged by creatures who are highly sensitive to sound. Any sound attracts these creatures to you after which they proceed to kill you. These highly sensitive and fast creatures have changed the world as we know it and following the Abott family in their bid to survive is priceless.

Everything in this movie is near perfect from the pacing to soundtrack, acting, direction, emotions and the creatures. If you choose to see only one move from this list let it be A Quiet Place. A modern classic.

Alien 1979

Yes its old, Yes the CGI is dated, Yes it is still an unmatched classic in the Alien franchise. Alien is Ridley Scott’s masterpiece from 1979. It was the first movie to introduce these acid blood aliens we know today which have been featured in a handful of movies.

Alien follows the crew of a commercial space ship headed back to earth. Long story short the crew recieve an alien transmission which turns out to be a warning. The crew decide to follow the signal and invesigate its source…Fastforward…eggs, alien wrapped on your face and the infamous alien bursting out of your chest scene.

Its old but its still the best entry into the alien franchise. Due to its age it can be found free on youtube so there is no reason not to watch this classic.

The Decent

The Decent was released back in 2005 and is about a group of friends who go cave exploring. After a narrow passage caves in the group of friends descends further down the cave to find an exit. However, the cave is a sprawling system which is home to blind light sensitive creatures . It plays to the normal tropes of horror from fear of the dark to claustrophobic feelings. This one is definitely worth the watch, explaining as little as possible is best.

Jaws 1975

If you haven’t seen this then you are missing an important piece of cinematic history. Jaws is the best shark movie that ever was and probably ever will be.

Jaws was released in 1975 and was directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. Based on the book released the previous year, Jaws follows the story of a man eating Great White Shark attacking beach goers in summer. This causes the police and marine biologists alike to hunt the creature down. What follows is now of cinematic legend. The movie was so good and so terrifying for its time that people in the United States were actually afraid to go into the water.

The movie is now more than 30 years old yet the acting, direction style and most importantly the sharks would give modern movies a run for its money. It is hands down the greatest shark movie and possibly the greatest creature feature of all time. If you haven’t seen it. Please do.
